Part 117: Technically, I was only Captain for two years, then I was viciously mutinied upon.

Being where Godley, Raven, Abberline and finally Alifi do their best to comfort an inconsolable Kat after the loss of her baby … Ava and Crane continue to dance around the mess-around, while Don seethes (and Portsmith only fuels the fire) … Sarah’s relationship with Barrie flourishes, despite outside pressure regarding her support of Godalming’s book … Candy resumes her protection of Chiana … to help Miranda, Raven buys Corso’s assist in borrowing the 12th Commandment, with every intention of bringing it back … Don and Crane finally have it out over their feelings for Ava, with disastrous results … Manouche contributes to Alphonse’s continuing education at sea … the mysterious woman Abberline has seen off and on finally makes her mission known, leaving Kat no choice but to resort to the adage, “waste not” … and Raven proves he’s his mother’s son, as his pirate instincts help him ensure Corso’s cooperation on their journey to Fiji.

At the hospital:

Godley *brushes the rest of the crumbs on the floor, knocks politely on the door to Kat’s room, listens for an answer, and when he doesn't get any, he waits for a while, then he opens the door.  Kat is on the bed, with her back turned to the room, and when he gets closer, he can see that she has her eyes open, but she doesn't turn to look at him*  How are you feeling?  The Inspector will be soon back, and he asked me to watch over you.  Do you mind me sitting here?  I would not want to tell to him that I didn't do what he asked.  Oh, and Raven is here too.  I am sure that he will soon be here.  He has been very anxious about you.  As we all are.

Kat:  I'm not a 2 year old that needs tending.  I'm fine, tell Raven that it's so.  Then take him home.  This is no place for him.  *Closes her eyes*

Godley *sighs, sits down in the chair*  I will tell him to go home and that you will see him later then.

Raven *peeks inside the doorway hesitantly*  Mother?  *he enters the room slowly, he wants to run up and throw his arms around his mother, but somehow he feels she doesn’t want him to do this.  He approaches the bed, glances at Godley, then speaks to Kat again*  Are you feeling better, Mother?  Is there anything I can do for you?  *pauses*  W-we miss you … I hope you can come home soon.

Godley *retreats quietly out to the waiting room*  Everything is wrong once again, I see.

Kat:  I'll be fine Raven.  It would please me if you would go home and look out for your father and Chiana.  Miranda is scatterbrained at best and Candy ... needs all the help she can get.  *Silently to herself, and I have proved totally useless.*  Please Raven, it'd ease my mind.

Raven *looks at her anxiously, nods*  I’ll do what I can for them … but it won’t be like having you there.  *pauses, thinks for a few minutes*  Regular life’s not always like pirate life, Mother … sometimes you do great things an’ there’s no guns fired, no swordfights … sometimes the conquest is silent, an’ you make miracles just by bein’ there.  That’s what you do for Father.  You make him feel protective, an’ you make his house a home.  You make him want to be home.  You make him care.  *he digs in his pocket, brings something out, takes her hand*  I found this outside, I wanna give it to you.  *grins*  It’s lucky.  *he opens her hand, presses a perfect 4-leaf clover into her palm, closes her fingers around it.  Leans in closer to her, kisses her cheek; releases her hand, smiles, leaves the room*

Kat *Watches him go.  Opening her hand, she looks at the clover*  Hold on to your illusions, sweet.  *Sighs*  Mine have all turned to ashes.

At Crane’s house:

Ichy *starts to explain his studies to her and gives her a lengthy lecture on his works and of his tools that he has made himself, and of his scientific methods*  So, I see nature as a big clockwork consisting of hundreds of wheels connected to each other.  There is order in the universe, and mankind is just a foolish, self-centered species thinking more emotionally than rationally.  But I have to admit … *and he takes the pendant and looks at it in deep thoughts* … there are moments when the emotions take control.  Don't you agree, Ava?  It is hard to be rational sometimes.

Ava: Yes a giant clock work yes I see it *she hangs on every word Ichy says* Yes we do need to think rationally Ichy but sometimes *she touches his face with her hands. Her hands are soft and gentle* We need to let emotions in Ichy. sometimes its right to accept the emotions that we feel in inside. I may be wrong her Ichy but if we did not have any emotions we couldn't think straight. Yes emotions maybe be out of control but sometimes it is right and you have got to be brave and let them in. A rational man would let his emotions in because he knows what he could gain from it. A foolish person dwells in the past still hurting, not letting their emotions in for fear of hurting again. But maybe if they let their emotions in they may discover a whole new world waiting for themfor example me Ichy im still hurting for what Don did to me but im willing to move on because I know some where out there. There is a man for me.

Ichy *stunned, closing his fingers on the shovel shaped pendant, softly*  If we had no emotions there would be less pain, Ava, less memories to hurt over.  Maybe I am a fool to you, but I have grown very careful ... *he touches her hand on his face, then takes it and kisses it lightly.*  But I do have to say I wish that you were not married …

Ava: *looking into his eyes* Ichy I do to that's why Im getting a divorce Don has hurt me way to much Ichy. I cannot be with him any longer I cannot take it Ichy *tear rolls down her face*. I want to have conversations I don't want to fight I want to love. But if you had some one to help you get over the pain and start a new life Ichy would that help we both have pain and memories but together we could make new ones. *she moves closer*

Ichy *stunned by her touch and her words, but he feels the shovel pendant in his fist, and he presses it still harder feeling the sharp edges prick his skin, and it feels to him as if it were glowing and burning his hand*  And then a speck of dust enters the clockwork and everything goes haywire ... You are right, I am a fool to live in the past, but I need to - to take the matter to an end before starting anything new.  I hope I could do something for you, and ease your pain, but I have to know one thing first … I am sorry, Ava, but I need to know if she loves me, and if she doesn't, I hope I could be the man for you.  *smiles shyly*

Ava: *moves backs and lets her hand drop away from his face* yes Ichabod I understand. *trying so hard not to cry and trying to change the subject* spider spray yes what was it you needed Ichabod, if you tell what you need and I will leave.

At Chateau Blanchefort:

Don *trying to rationalise his feelings he tries with all his mite to drive slowly. Telling himself over and over again that he has his children in the back. The thoughts go through his mind how on earth could a woman have an affair with another man, when she is married to the worlds greatest lover. Its even worse that its with Ichabod Crane a man with a fear of spiders. another thought runs through his mind what is she doing with him right now. What is he doing with his wife she is mine no one else's. How dear she have an affair with another man. He arrives at Chateau de Blanchefort where he grabs his children out of the car and knocks on the door he is no longer in a good mood*

Wilson *opens the door and smiles at the kids*  Mr. DeMarco, the Commander told me to wait for you and take care of the kids.  She herself went to Constable Crane, and she told you that if you want to see her, you can probably see her there.  Don't worry about your children, I will see to it that they do have a good time at the castle.  Commander Portsmith has renovated a room for their use only, with all the furniture and toys a child can want.  *he reaches out his hands for the children*  Do you want to play or watch a video, Sam and Lola?  How about some ice cream?  *he winks an eye at Lola*  There's a whole princess castle awaiting you, little lady ...  *The kids look at him hesitantly*  Tell them it is okay, Mr. DeMarco.  They will be safe with me.  And - don't do anything foolish.  *he lowers his voice*  In spite of the Commander's words, I strongly advise you to go home.  Everything is not as it looks to be.

Don: thank you Wilson I shall not do anything stupid. Now you two be good daddy loves you. Have fun with Wilson I will be back soon.  *Don gets into the car and waves the children goodbye.

At Barrie’s house:

*After everything had been cleaned up at the store and Zach and his team had boarded up the window, Barrie managed to talk Sarah into staying at his house for the night in case something else happened.  Before leaving, Sarah had wrapped her one copy of Godalming’s book in a paper bag and placed it in a hidden safe in the back room, along with all of her most valuable of the rare books.  She had done the task quickly to avoid any possible cameras picking up on which book she was hiding and had been careful to keep the display of the safe covered while pressing the security code.  Isabella had gone back to Chez Roux and now Sarah and Barrie were sitting comfortably in Barrie’s living room in front of a warm fire; Beth and Porthos sleeping in front of the fireplace*

Barrie *sitting next to Sarah, his arm around her and her leaning against his shoulder*  I am glad you agreed to go with me; I didn’t like you being alone after what happened today.

Sarah *smiles*  To be honest, I’m glad you asked.  I wouldn’t have been able to relax there tonight.

Barrie *carefully*  Are you going to tell Mr. Godalming that the book launch is off?  I am sure he would understand.  He knows The Order, knows what it’s capable of doing.

Sarah *sighs*  I suppose I’ll have to … it annoys me, but I guess I don’t much of a choice.  And I don’t want you and Isabella to get into trouble with Portsmith on account of me.

Barrie *kisses her on her forehead*  Don’t worry about Portsmith.  I know she thinks she rules this town, but there are still those with higher ranks than her.

Sarah:  That’s true … pretty sure both the Vice-Mayor and the Mayor himself regard free speech higher than Portsmith.  *Yawns and stretches*  But I’m not going to worry about anything till tomorrow, right now I just want to get some sleep.

Barrie *unsure how to ask; wondering if there is a gentleman way of asking, but concludes there isn’t; clears his throat, quietly and cautiously*  Which room will you be sleeping in?  *quickly adds* Emphasis on ‘sleeping.’

Sarah *breaks into a smile; turns and looks at him*  Well, I can’t very well sleep with your arms around me if we’re sleeping in separate rooms.  *Rises, takes his hand and drags him up from the couch*

Barrie *following her upstairs, smiles*  I must say, I like your logic!

At Bournemouth House:

Candy *changes Chiana, fearing for her condition, she is tired and listless, and she wanted only half a bottle before she started to yawn.  She puts her back in the protected crib, fretting that she can't draw the circle of protection immediately around Chiana.  She glances at the Inspector, dozing in the armchair.  He told her that Kat is now awake, but she is depressed because of the loss of the baby and that she didn't even want to see Chiana now, and then he said that he will sit watching over Chiana for a while before he returns to the hospital, but he has been sleeping like that for three hours ... Candy pulls the covers around Chiana better, strokes her hair, and in a minute the baby is asleep.  Worried, she goes to the Inspector and touches lightly his shoulder*  Sorry that I have to wake you up, but maybe she is already waiting for you at the hospital?

Abberline *wakes up with a start*  Who?  Oh, Kat ... I have been sleeping too long, have I?  *he looks right past Candy at Chiana*  At least she is all right and sleeping.  Take good care of her, as you have done, I have to return to Kat at once!  *and without caring to straighten his loose tie, in a crumpled suit and hair in disorder falling into his face, he gets up and takes his coat, and he is gone*

Candy *looking after him, feeling very guilty, not having told him about Chiana, but he has troubles enough ... She fetches her chalk and the black candles, arranges them in a circle and starts to trace an intricate pattern on the floor*

At the docks:

Raven *having left the hospital, wandering aimlessly, his mind troubled about Kat, suddenly finds himself at the port and sees a familiar-looking young man gazing at the 12th Commandment.  He approaches, and realizes with a start that it’s Miranda*  Miranda!  What’d you … you cut your hair … *he looks in the direction of the ship, then turns back to her*  What’re you doing here?

Miranda *turns to him with shining eyes, very delighted to see him*  Raven, do you know how to maneuver a boat like this?  I am going to find Malachi and I missed Manouche's ship.  I was trying to pose as a cabin boy, that's why I had to crop my hair.  *suddenly very concerned*  Do I look horrible now?  Maybe he won't like me with short hair?  *she grabs his arm*  But I must get to him, you are a dreamer, you know how to locate him - you must help me, Raven, or I will have to steer this boat on my own.  Or - join Captain Carver's crew.

Raven *looks at the ship, nods*  Yeah, the 12th Commandment would be easy after … after The Lancet.  That’s the pirate ship I worked on for awhile.  *his voice trails off as he tries to remember; he frowns*  It’s all kinda hazy … I worked on two different crews, the ship changed hands … *looks at Miranda*  But her last captain was Carver.  He was okay to me, but … *pauses, concentrates* … but I don’t think you should go to sea with him.  I don’t know why, exactly … *he shakes his head as if to clear it, looks at her again*  Anyway … the 12th Commandment would be a cinch after sailin’ a pirate ship.  *grins*  It’s the kind of ship someone who doesn’t know anythin’ about boating buys.  It’s foolproof … but don’t tell Commander Portsmith I said that.  Still, you shouldn’t go alone.  *he thinks hard, wondering what to do, then his face brightens as he sees someone walking past Chez Roux*  Wait here, Miranda, I’ll be right back.  *he runs toward the figure, calling out to him*  Mr. Corso!  Mr. Corso, can I talk to you, sir?

Corso *stops in his tracks and turns toward the voice, frowns seeing Raven running toward him*  And what would that be about, son?  Whatever your dad says, it wasn't me!  I haven't done anything and I can prove it!

Raven *looks at him curiously*  Father?  He didn’t … never mind.  *glances at the ship*  My friend over there *nods toward Miranda* he was wondering if I could show him around Commander Portsmith’s ship.  I figured it’d be okay, since she’s my godmother, an’ we’re so close these days … *he smiles warmly*  The trouble is, my friend doesn’t have a lotta time, so I don’t have time to ask permission.  But I know the Commander puts a lot of stock in what you say.  I heard her tell someone you're "the brains behind the Security department."  *looks at Corso admiringly*  So would you mind covering for us?  I don’t think the Commander’ll even know we were aboard.  But in case she does … if you told her you talked to us and said it was okay, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.  *pauses, glances around, leans closer to him*  I know you like to be paid for services rendered.  I have a book I can offer you.  It's at Manouche's, but she’s gone for awhile, an’ the book is mine anyway, so I can do what I want with it.  *lowers his voice*  It’s called "Three Books of Charms, Spells an’ Sorceries" by Leonardo Vairo.  It’s from 1589, an’ it’s in Latin.  An’ it’s in great condition.  If you’ll cover for us, it’s yours.  Will you do it?

Corso:  The Books of Charms?  The one and only by Vairo?  Blimey, where does she find all these books from?  In great condition?  *a greedy look creeps into his eyes*  I am sure she would not mind, she's taken a fancy to you.  *He roots in his bag and produces a key*  As it happens to be, I do even have the keys for that damned boat.  *he dangles them in front of Raven*  So, when would I get the book?  You take the keys and speed off, I don't get the book, but I have once again to answer for all the consequences?  I am not daft, you see.

Raven *eyes the keys, smiles at him*  No, you’re not, sir.  The Commander was right, you are the brains.  I guess I can see why you don’t know if you can trust me, we’ve never made a deal before.  I’m not lyin’, that’s the book I have, an’ I’m willing to give it to you.  I could go get it right now.  *shrugs*  You could go pick it up yourself after we’ve gone, but … well, maybe you better not.  *hesitates*  It’s funny, but Manouche has real mixed feelings about you.  She shares that love of books, an’ I’ve heard her say she admires your re— your re-SOURCEfulness … but … sometimes you make her real mad.  *he smiles to himself as he subtly sends a thought to Corso’s head, reminding him of the time Manouche slammed him up against the wall*  If you showed up at Rartigillichal by yourself, askin’ for the book, she might get rough with you an’ ask questions later.  An’ I don’t think you’d want that.  So maybe I better go get it right now, if you’ll wait here.

Corso:  Sounds good to me.  Er, if you see her, tell her I'd like to meet her again ... for business, that is ... *grins*  Now, be on your way and I'll have that boat ready for you.  *he turns to the young guy clad in dirty pirate rags*  Your companion, eh?  Looks like a little pirate to me.

Miranda:  Winter.  *she pulls her bandanna lower and spits in front of her boots*  Nice to meet ya, sir!  *salutes him, the turns back to the boat, takes a rope in her hands*

Raven *smiles*  Thank you, sir!  Sure, I’ll tell her.  I’ll hurry back, wait right here.  *he hesitates for a moment, a little nervous about leaving Corso and Miranda alone, but he decides she can handle it.  He concentrates, shifts into white raven shape, flaps his wings and flies fast, to Rartigillichal.  He lands in front of the house, shifts back, glances around cautiously.  He quietly opens the door to the main house, steps inside, sees no one.  He runs up the stairs as quickly and quietly as he can, finds the book he’d gotten from Manouche, still wrapped in protective plastic.  He carefully puts it in a canvas bag, then adds a few other items – a football, sneakers, socks – and dashes down the stairs, calls out*  Alifi!  Are you here?  It’s me, Raven.

Alifi *comes out of the sunroom, where she’d just awoken from a nap; smiles when she sees him*  Raven!  It’s good to see you.  How’s your mother?

Raven:  She’s still in the hospital … I wanted to ask you if you’d maybe visit her?  I think she’d like to talk to you, ‘specially since you’ve seen Grandmother Ama at times, too.  I think that’d make her feel better.

Alifi:  Of course, I’d be happy to.  *looks at the bag*  What’ve you got there?

Raven:  Jus’ stuff to play football.  I’m gonna go to Sergeant Godley’s.

Alifi:  That’s a good idea, dear.  There’s only so much you can do for your mother right now.  I think she’d like to know you’re getting a little exercise, having some fun.  *pauses*  Yes, I’ll come visit her in a little while, soon as this bread I started finishes baking.  Would you like to wait, and we could go together.

Raven *eyes wide*  Oh … no, I better get goin’.  I told Sergeant Godley I’d be right there.  *grins*  If I wait too long, you know how he is.  He might change his mind, an’ have a big snack an’ then fall asleep.

Alifi *laughs*  Good point!  Strike while the iron’s hot.  Very well, off you go, have fun.  You and I can catch up later.

Raven *nods*  Thanks, Alifi.  *he turns, dashes out the door, takes off running, and he doesn’t stop till he returns to the docks.  He breathes a sigh of relief as he sees Corso and Miranda talking; everything seems to be fine.  He runs up to them, breathing hard, trying to catch his breath from the long run*  I … got it … *he reaches in the bag, pulls out the book, hands it to Corso*  Here it is, sir.  Now the keys, like you promised.  *he looks at him, gets an idea*  Y-you wouldn’t care to come with us, would you, sir?

Corso *snatches the book, sighs contented when he leafs it*  Come to dad, little Vairo ... Ah, this is perfect!  You rarely do find books like this, cherished and loved and kept with respect.  No blemishes whatever, no dog ears, no notes or underlinings.  Even the leather is as good as new.  *he grins*  And why would I come with?  Can't you manage a boat on your own?  *hands him the keys*  Though this pirate of yours, he seems rather inexperienced.  But if you plan on a little trip to Tortuga, I might be in …

Raven:  Oh, we can manage fine on our own, sir.  But you’re right, Mr. Winter is inexperienced.  An’ I know you’ve had some experience with the 12th Commandment, an’ I thought, what better way to learn about a ship than from someone with first-hand knowledge.  *pauses, looks out at the sea, nods*  I guess we could go to Tortuga.  *looks at him innocently*  What would you like to do there?

Corso:  Aye, Tortuga.  Don't you know that it is the place where a man never needs to feel unwelcome.  *he gets a dreamy look on his face*  All those pirate wenches strolling around, and the smuggled rum ... I can master the 12th Commandment, after all, if there's something we Corsos haven't conquered, it's simply because we don't want to.  I'll be a captain of a ship as soon as I get my sailing cap on.  *he walks aboard the 12th Commandment*  Just  loosen  those  ropes, Winter!  *he inserts the keys and the engine roars to life*

Raven *nods enthusiastically*  I can see you now with your own ship, sir, you’ll be a splendid captain!  I’m sure that’s part of the reason Commander Portsmith is in such awe of you.  I was in Tortuga once, but it was a long time ago.  *salutes*  Aye-aye, sir, let’s show Tortuga to Mr. Winter.  *he catches Miranda’s eye, winks reassuringly as the 12th Commandment speeds away from the dock*

At the hospital:

Abberline *worried, returns back to the hospital, to meet Godley in the waiting room*  How is she?

Godley:  As you left her.  I didn't want to disturb her by sitting inside, she clearly did not want me there.  No one else has been in except Raven.

Abberline:  Good.  *he opens the door cautiously, and looks at her from the door.  She is in the same position as he left her, face turned toward the wall*  Kat?  Are you awake?  I am sorry it took me so long to be back.  *he takes the chair and moves it nearer to the bed*  I know it will take a time to heal from the loss of the - the baby, but you’ll get past it ...

Kat:  Awake, no I'm sleeping and you're interrupting a dream.  Heal ... from what??  Death?  I fear there's not enough time in creation to heal from that.  *Pauses*  It comes for us all you know sooner or later.  Does it not?  *Holds out her hand with Raven's 4 leaf wilted clover*  There you see death in all its glory.  Dark, useless and ugly!

On the streets of Deppville:

Don *speeds off the words of Wilson echo through his brain he tries to stop himself from heading towards Ichabod's house.  He turns the car around*  turn the car around Don. She is not in there with him she is on some bench somewhere, but if Portsmith saw her holding his hand his hand. no no she would not. *however talking to himself does not work he is nearly there at Ichabod, he has so much anger running through him. How could he touch his woman. She is his nobody else's. He can see Portsmith in the distance he slows down considerably so not to get a ticket*

Portsmith *observes him with a snug smile when he stops the car by her*  Hello, Don.  They have been very long inside together, and as you see, the curtains are all drawn down.  *she doesn't disclose to him that Ichy always pulls the shades down when he is gone*  Isn't that a bit strange, do you think?  In the middle of the day?  *she shakes her head sadly*  And you were ready to die for her, Don.

Don: *listening to Portsmith's words as if the were the gospel truth* She's up there with him doing what she should be doing with me. How dare she I was ready to die for her and she's with that pip squeak Crane I'll be surprised . *his anger intensifies* Im going to kill him. What is it with him and stealing other men's women. *he heads to the car and gets his sword out* Portsmith I hope you are ready.

Portsmith *grins at him*  Yes, you were ready to die for her, and he chooses a man who didn't even dare to ascend a ladder.  But I do have to tell you, that Constable Crane is no wimp despite his appearance.  Ava is not the first woman he has seduced ... *smiles, as Don starts to look more and more furious*  Oh, just one more detail before I'll open the door.  *She picks up a magnificent amount of keys and starts to look for the right one*  I think it is this one ... in the meantime, will you sign this form to protect your children .. *she hands him a folded document and a pen, shows him the empty line*  Put there your signature and your kids will be safe from Crane or Ava trying to take them from you.

Don *angrily * No Portsmith after the deed is done then I will either he dies or I.  *He snatches the form and puts it in his back pocket and he snatches the keys off of Portsmith and opens Ichabod's door. He begins to shout for Ichabod* Ava I know you are in here with that pipsqueak Ichabod.  Ichabod Crane put my wife down I challenge you to a dual.

Ichy *takes her hand in his*  Don't leave, Ava!  I just want to make a fresh start, just like you said, I don't want to carry old emotions into a new relationship ... I want it all cleared up at first, but I know we would have so much in common, Ava.  *moves a little closer*  Working together, inventing something new - maybe even inventing a new life for our both, with time.  Don't leave yet, Ava.  *he moves closer still and leans in on her, but suddenly they both hear Don's angry voice*  He is here, Ava!  What shall I do?  *for a moment he seems deathly pale, ready to faint, but then he composes himself and walks up the stairs*  I am here.  What do you want with me and how did you call me?  *his eyes are cold and his mouth set, his eyebrows cocked contemptuously*  I do accept your challenge.

Portsmith *growls, glares disapprovingly at them both*  Bloody stupid of you both.  *but she retreats to watch with amusement what will happen*

Ava: *takes Ichabod's hand* you need to be brave Ichabod. I believe in you I know you can be. Do it for us

Don: *right up in Ichabod's face* I called you a pipsqueak. I want my wife that's what I want, I want to kill you for touching her. I am glad you accept Ichabod. Now get your weapon and I will met you outside. Ava get yourself right here right now

Ava: no I wont *squeezing Ichabod's hand*

Don: you will listen to me I am your husband and you will do as I say now get here. *Ava still wont come he grabs her and drags her out side he hands her to Portsmith. Ava shouts and Don*

Ava: You fool I hate you *get off me Portsmith*. Don't you touch him. I love him

Don: no you don't you love me. Portsmith watch her and I will sign those stupid papers. *he waits for Ichabod to come out*

Portsmith *holds Ava tightly by her arm*  See what you have done?  I really did not expect you to behave like a little slut.  You are spoiling my reputation and the future of your kids.  *shakes her furiously*  Tell me, dear, which one do you want to see dead?

Ichy:  I will not tolerate such word used of me.  I will not let him treat you badly, Ava.  *he turns and goes back in, calculating calmly his chances while trying to choose a weapon, with a resolute expression and a shaky hand.  Finally he sees an old long dagger hanged on the wall, he takes it in his hands*  This one will do, Mr. World's Best Lover.  And now you must die.  *he clasps his fingers tightly around the cold steel, still pressing the shovel pendant in his other, whispering to himself*  Don't forget me, Kat ... *and he puts the pendant in his breast pocket and opens the door*  I am here, Don.  It seems to me that your greatness as a lover is exaggerated.

Portsmith:  So, will you sign now or I'll put a stop on this nonsense.  *offers the pen and paper to Don*  Sign, you fool!

Don: not yet Portsmith he has to die first

Ava: I am not what you say I am at least I admit to my feelings unlike you Portsmith *Portsmith squeezes Ava arm* Ouch you stupid old hag. every body knows that you like doing a pirate. We have all seen the pictures the last I heard of captain Jack Sparrow he was seeling them. Let go of me

Don: Oh really she never said that in fact she quite liked it. So you can play with the big boys after all I am surprised  pippy  *he walks up to Ichabod and takes the first strike*

Ava: *shouting* Be careful Ichabod, Don if you hurt him I swear I will ..... *Portsmith puts her hand over Ava's mouth and she struggles to get free and she bites Portsmiths hand*

Portsmith *enraged at Ava*  So I am a stupid hag, eh?  Now, you'd better reconsider your words, dear, because this hag has the power over your life and your kids now.  They are mine, you little sly fornicating bitch.

Ichy *very pale but resolute, parries with his dagger and backs off to evaluate the situation*  If there's anything big in you it is your mouth.  The world's greatest lover can't keep a single woman, ironic, isn't it?  *and he prepares to make a lunge at Don, when Ava bites Portsmith's hand*

Portsmith *aware of her cameras for the first time speaks loud enough for the cameras to register it, she releases Ave with her other hand, but pushes her with the other, hidden from the view of the camera between the fighters*  Ava, no!  You may get hurt!  Oh, I can't watch it any more!  *and she hides her smile, throwing her hands on her face and peeking at the group between her fingers*

Ava: Bitch, I aint finished with you. You will never mother my children never not as long as I am living.

Don: Portsmith I told you to hold her. Why cant you listen. Portsmith answer me now where is she. Pippy  I so can I have Ava, you need talk Kat huh she's married to the inspector. Ava do you here that he doesn't love you he still loves her he will never love you. no one will love not even I.  *Portsimth pushes Ava hard which forces her flying into Ichy, which causes Ichabod to drop his sword*

Don: Pippy, now you have no weapon, now you must die.  *Don lunges towards Ichabod but Ava just in time pushes Ichy to the floor before Don can stop himself he lunges his sword into Ava's stomach the pain surges around her body she touches her stomach and sees blood on her hands.*

Ava: *makes a strange noise* Ichy *and she falls to the floor next to Ichy*... I love you....*struggling to breath and to stay awake* hold me.

Don finally noticing what he has done he drops his sword and falls to his knees and cries, he pulls out the form and signs it and chucks it at Portsmith*

At Bournemouth House:

A woman in a cape *throws away the spray can and admires briefly her work.  She has painted the words 'DIE BITCH' on the facade of the bookshop where she saw that poster.  Though it is now gone, she must have been part of the conspiracy... She has not yet located the writer, who has to be punished first.  And she still has not decided upon the right course for action for the main culprit, but she realizes that her rash act means that she has to perform the execution as soon as possible before she gets caught ...*

*Moments later she rings the bell at Bournemouth House.  A young woman answers, and she gazes unsure at her. Is this her?*  I have a special delivery to Mrs. Abberline.  Are you Mrs. Abberline?

Candy *shakes her head sadly*  No, I am not.  Mrs. Abberline is at the hospital and she doesn't take any visitors.  I can take the delivery and give it to her.

The woman:  No you can't.  It is personal.  *she turns abruptly around and leaves*

On The Libertine Trailer:

Manouche *the ship docked at Fiji’s port, walks around checking things, thanking the crew*  Right, mates, ‘ave a good time, but keep at th’ ready, savvy?  We still don’t know what t’ expect.  Ye've all been bloody brilliant ... dismissed, fer th’ time bein’.  *the men disperse, and she’s about to return to the cabin to find Blake, when she looks over, sees Alphonse hanging over the rail.  She walks over to him, her tone sympathetic*  Apologies, luv, we jus’ didn’t see that squall comin’ till we was in th' throes of it.  Sorry ye ‘ad a rough crossin’ …

Alphonse *glances at her for a moment, his face green, tries to steady his voice*  I – I’ll be fine, it’s nothing … probably just something I ate.  Once this cursed ship stops moving and we’re properly parked, I’ll be fine.

Manouche *shakes her head*  Ahhh, mate … we are, ah, parked, as ye say.  We’re at th’ docks.  *he lifts his head up miserably, stares at her, disbelieving; she waves a hand toward the landscape before them, he sees she’s right*  Welcome t’ Fiji, luv.

Alphonse *groans*  Ohhh … *he slowly turns, his back against the railing, looks at her*  T-tell me, Captain … does one eventually get used to this sort of thing?

Manouche:  ‘Course ye do!  Jus’ give it a chance, it takes time.  I seen bigger blokes than ye gone pale at lesser storms.  Ye did fine.

Alphonse *starting to recover, stands up a little straighter, smoothes out his shirt; looks at her haughtily*  I know I did fine.  There’s nothing a Corso can’t do, once he puts his mind to it.  That’s what my father always said, and he’s right.  If there’s something we Corsos haven’t conquered, it’s simply because we don’t want to.  *glances around, sniffs the air somewhat distastefully*  Now, tell me, can you suggest a good hotel?  No, never mind … *holds up a hand before she can answer*  I don’t think you and I would agree on accommodations at all.  No offense.  I’ll find something on my own, if it’s all the same to you.  I’ll let you know where I’m staying, so when you’re ready to return to Deppville, I can accompany you.  I do hope by that time you’ll have restocked this boat with more appropriate sustenance.  *nods stiffly, starts to walk away*

Manouche *arches an eyebrow indignantly, then nods, her tone sweet*  Oh aye, it’ll be te yer likin’, I promise.  Nothin’ but th’ best fer th’ Corsos’ darlin’ lil’ golden boy.  Lessee … *she grabs his arm with a firm grip*  I reckon we’ll ‘ave salt pork, an’ hardtack, an’ them pickled eggs …

Alphonse *tries to pull away from her, goes green again at her description of food*  S-salt pork … pp-pickled eggs …

Manouche *shrugs*  ‘Ave to stock items that won’t spoil, savvy?  *takes on an apologetic tone*  Y’see, luv, we’re but simple pirates, we don’t go traipsin’ about th’ seven-plus seas with pleasure-cruise accoutrements fer blue noses such as yerself.  *she holds his arm tightly*  Now, where was I … oh, th’ provisions … them pickled eggs is always popular!  I'll never ferget one voyage I were on where I saw some barmy blighter down 29 of ‘em in one sittin’!  ‘Course, he weren’t sittin’ long after that, if ye catch me meanin’.  *laughs, shakes him slightly*  We’ll ‘ave to take care with th’ hardtack.  Sometimes bread products from ‘round these parts come infested with weevils, bloody things.  Oh, an’ we’ll ‘ave plenty o’ whiskey … I know pina colada’s yer drink, mate, but pina colada makin's don’t keep well fer long.  An’ believe me, drinkin’ a pina colada what’s gone off can be jus’ as bad as eatin’ nigh on thirty o’ them eggies …

Alphonse:  SHUT UP!  *he breaks loose from her, gagging, runs to the rail, leans over it again*

Manouche:  Oh, blimey, I AM sorry, Mr. Corso!  Ye take all th’ time ye need, then come ashore.  She's all battened down, we’re done ‘ere fer a time.  I’ll leave ye to it.  *she puts her hands on his shoulders, leans closer to him, murmurs in his ear*  Nothin’ but you an’ th’ boat .. er, ship … safe at harbor, jus’ gently rockin’ … rockin’ … up an’ down, up an’ down … *she smothers a laugh as he groans and swears; she slaps him on the back*  I’m sure ye’ll be an inspiration to us all, Mr. Corso, once ye’ve made up yer mind that seasickness is somethin’ a Corso is keen on conquerin’.  *she laughs softly to herself, goes to fetch Blake*

At the hospital:

Alifi *arrives at the hospital, heads for the room where Raven told her she would find Kat.  She sees the door is ajar, and she taps lightly on it*  Kat?  Kat, it’s Alifi.  I’d like to talk to you, luv, if I may.  *she peeks in, sees Kat with her face toward the wall, and Abberline sitting next to her*  Oh … Inspector.  *pauses, remembering their heated exchange; sighs*  Inspector, I know you probably don’t want to see me right now.  But I wish you’d please let me talk to Kat, I'd like to try to help her.

Abberline:  But don't forget the living around you, me and Chiana and Raven ... *looks at the clover in Kat’s palm and stops, in a way, he feels that she is right.  He has no answer for her.  Just three months, three months that he did not even get to share with her, and now she refuses him to grieve together … and then, to his relief he hears Alifi's voice from the door and he turns to her, smiles sadly*  I deserved that.  But can you really help her?  I can't.  *he rises up and offers the chair to her*  I don't know what to say.  Please tell her that .. that there is still much to live for .... *  he leaves the room, lights a cigarette despite the bypassing nurses' angry glances at him*

Godley:  Any news, Inspector?

Abberline *shakes his head*  None.

Alifi *says nothing to Abberline, but places a comforting hand on his shoulder.  She watches him leave the room, then she sits down, looks at Kat*  Kat, I know you feel completely alone in your pain right now, and in many ways, you are.  You’re surrounded by loving family and friends who want to be able to share it with you, but well-meaning though they are, there’s no way they can understand how it feels.  *pauses*  But I can, dear.  I … I lost a child, long ago.  It was the only time I was ever pregnant, and I loved the father very much.  He was a good man, we were making plans for our future.  I was overjoyed when I became pregnant … *she grins* … and he immediately insisted that we marry as soon as possible.  *smile fades*  Unfortunately, he had his enemies.  He used to leave me alone for long stretches, to go on adventures.  He was a Gypsy pirate, much like Manouche.  I worried like mad every time he left, and he would come home and laugh at me for being so worried, and I would get angry at him … *smiles wistfully* … but … the irony was, he didn’t die in a grand adventure.  He died in an foolish quarrel, right there in Fiji, in a tavern, over a bloody card game.  A man he was playing against, a notorious sore loser, was convinced that he’d been cheating, and … that was that.  *she pauses, looks down at her hands for a few minutes, then continues, her voice bitter*  He was murdered in cold blood, and the law would do nothing about it because of who and what we were … that all happened only about a month after I found out I was carrying his child.  I lost the baby soon after.  It would’ve been a little girl.  *she wipes at her eyes, swallows*  I saw the murderer much later, and my anger was as fresh as if it had happened that very day ... and I put a curse on the man.  Funny thing about Gypsy curses, Kat ... their effectiveness often depends on the gullibility of the subject.  I’ll admit, it did give me a little satisfaction that the bastard was overwhelmingly superstitious, making my curse a success.  However, it was small consolation for my loss.  *she pauses for a few minutes*  So I do understand how you’re feeling, at least to some extent.  I know everyone’s situation is different, and it’s absurd to discuss ‘levels’ of emotional pain.  There are differences between your situation and mine, but it doesn’t make one experience any easier or harder to bear than the other’s.  We all feel what we feel, and sometimes the phrase “things could be worse” just don’t cut it.  *she places her hand gently over Kat’s on the bed*  But I wanted to share this with you, dear, so you know that there is at least one person nearby who genuinely understands much of what you’re feeling.  And with that I’ll offer a little advice … I know you don’t feel like there’s much point to living now, that there’s much reason to go on.  But there is.  And if you’ll hang on, you’ll see it for yourself one day.  I was certain there was nothing left for me at the time, and I very nearly took my own life.  Now I’m glad I didn’t, because even though that particular joy was taken from me, I’ve known others, and I have no regrets.  You have a loving husband and two children who need you, more than you know.  Open up to Fred when you feel you can, Kat, let him into your heart the way you want him to let you into his.  Be open and honest with each other.  And … I’m here for you, if you ever want to talk … about anything.  Savvy?  *smiles, squeezes her hand*  I’ll leave you to rest now, if you wish, and you can think about what I said.  Unless you want me to stay.

Kat:  I sympathize with your losses.  Thank you.  *Nods and watches her departure.  Sighs*  Now I think I'll return to my dreams .... in shame .... degradation ... and sloth.

*A woman in a cape with a hood, hiding her features approaches the reception*  May I see Kat, please?

Andrew:  And who are you?  The doctor said that no visitors are allowed, but the Commander said that it is all right ... *shrugs*

The woman:  I am her sister, I travel from far when I heard of her misfortunes and that she is ill.  *imploringly*  You have to let me see her, we were very close, like twins.

Andrew *tries to take a closer look at her, but the only thing he can discern is a strand of dark hair, like Kat's, and a very fair complexion*  So what is your name?  For the records, that is.

The woman *stares a while at him blankly, trying to come up with some kind of name, but she comes up with just one.*  Kit.  We are Kit and Kat.  I told you we were close, and now I want to be at her side.

Andrew:  That's funny .. Er, all right.  Stay in the waiting room, the doctor will call you.

The woman:  Thank you!  *she hurries toward the waiting room, but stops before going in to take a cautious peek.  She recognizes him instantly, her enemy, the man whose soul will be soon damned to hell by her for what he did.  He is smoking a cigarette and arguing with a nurse.  She withdraws to a safe distance to make some kind of plan.*

Abberline *yells at one of the nurses scolding him about smoking*  What the hell are you hanging around me for, don't you have your work to do!  Damn, I smoke as much as I want to.  You are all a bunch of bloody incompetent failures!

Godley *trying to calm him down*  Not all of them are incompetent.  They do have their own security here nowadays, and I would not call those guys incompetent.  Don't make them press the red button, Inspector!

The woman *hearing the words immediately starts to search for a red alert button, and when she locates one in an empty room under the deck, she presses it and hides behind the desk smiling grimly, waiting for the security to take care of the last obstacle, and when the arguing voices grow fainter and disappear, she ventures another look into the waiting room.  The coast is clear, and she slips silently into the room, taking a dagger out of the folds of the cloak*  Prepare to meet your death.

Kat *Stares startled at the woman and knife.  Leaps to her feet, grabs the bedpan and holds it threateningly*  Stay where you are!  I'm armed and dangerous!!  *Wrinkles her nose in disgust with a glance in the bedpan.*  More dangerous than you can begin to imagine!!  Who the hell are you and just what the blazes do you think you're doing??

Woman in cape *stops and looks at Kat*  Your bedpan is just a minor inconvenience.  I am going to kill you because of what your husband did to me.  You yourself mean nothing to me.  I want him to suffer like I am suffering.  He killed my husband.  I heard that you had a miscarriage, and it was one of the best moments in my life after my husband's death.  I rejoiced when I heard it.  You are going to die and he will find out how it is to become a widower.

Kat:  Oh really?  Well I am disinclined to acquiesce to your request.  *helpfully*  Means no.  *Slings contents of bedpan into the woman's face, quickly blocks blade with the metal edge of the pan and bangs her in the head.  Knocking her unconscious*  Not today dear.  *Takes the knife and proceeds to scream her head off*

Alifi *having left Kat’s room, headed for the hospital entrance, took little notice of the woman in the cape who passed her by.  She’s about to leave the building when she hears a commotion, and Kat’s screaming.  She swiftly turns, runs back, keeps out of sight as she sees Abberline and Godley rush to Kat’s room, along with nurses and orderlies.  She starts for the room, hesitates, not sure what to do; then she hears a voice beside her*

Thank you, dear.

Alifi *turns, sees Ada standing next to her, smiling slightly*  Ada!  Wh-what are you thanking me for?  I did nothing …

Ada:  It was good of you to talk to Kat.

Alifi *sighs*  That was nothing.  I should’ve done more, I should’ve stayed with her.  Now who knows what’s going on …

Ada:  But your story got through to her … you brought her back to the present enough to be on the alert for trouble—

Alifi:  Which seems to be waiting constantly for the Abberlines at every turn.  *shakes her head*

Ada:  True enough, I’m afraid.  *moves closer to Alifi*  You got through to her when no one else could, not even Raven.  It may not have seemed like much, but … *smiles*  Do you think she would’ve had the presence of mind to throw a bedpan at her adversary a few hours earlier?

Alifi *raises eyebrows*  A bedpan??  *can’t help but smile*  That does sound like our Kat … *glances toward the commotion*  Sh-should I go back?

Ada:  There are already many people in that room.  Watch for awhile from here, if you like.  I think she has enough assist for now.  Thank you, Alifi, thank you for helping my daughter.  *her image shimmers like a flickering candle, and she’s gone*

Alifi *stares for a few minutes at the space where Ada disappeared, nods*  You’re more than welcome, luv.  *she stays where she is, watches Kat’s room from around a corner, listening to see if there’s anything she can do*

Abberline, Godley and the guards *stop at the bloodcurdling shriek, and the guards release their hold on Abberline, who immediately turns and races back*  It's Kat, that is her voice!  *he reaches the room, and stop all of a sudden, seeing the woman in cape lying at the door, with a knife in her hand, and Kat still screaming, he wrinkles his nose at the smell, and the others almost stumble upon him*  I know that woman!  She has been following me ... Did she try to stab you?  *Kat nods faintly, and Abberline takes a blanket, steps to her, wraps it around her and lifts her in his arms*  That's it.  You are now coming home with me from this - this damned asylum!  Godley, arrest that woman and see that she is locked up properly!  *and before anyone has time to react, he is out of the room, stopping briefly at Alifi*  Can you come to Bournemouth House?  I do trust you and Manouche much more than these butchers here.  *then he calls to a stunned Andrew*  What are you standing and staring there for, call a cab, you bloody idiot!

Alifi *looks startled, but nods briskly to Abberline*  Of course, Inspector, I’ll come with you.  *shakes her head at Andrew*  Oh, for heaven’s sake … allow me.  *she dashes out to the front of the hospital, sees DeNiro, brings her fingers to her mouth and whistles shrilly.  DeNiro looks in her direction, she waves, he pulls up to the front of the hospital; she leans into the window*  Your timing couldn’t have been better, luv.  Wait right here.  *she runs back inside, to tell the others the cab is waiting*

In Tortuga:

Raven *steps back, takes several more pictures with Corso’s cell phone, grins*  Perfect.  *he smiles at the sight before him – four pirate wenches in various states of undress, all sprawled sensuously on a large bed around an unconscious Dean Corso, who lies back with a big smile on his face, his glasses askew, and a nearly empty bottle of rum balanced precariously on his stomach.  Raven turns to a pirate standing next to him*  Thanks for your help, Mr. Plunkett.

Plunkett *laughs*  Blimey, me pleasure, White.  Couldn’t believe me eyes when I saw ye.  Didn’t reckon I’d see ye again after our time together on Th’ Lancet.  *nods toward Corso*  Dean Corso, he ain’t a bad sort, in th’ years I’ve known ‘im.  He can always be counted on fer a joke an’ some entertainin’ anecdotes.  Long as ye don’t do business with ‘im, he’s as fine a drinkin’ companion as ye could ask fer.  *frowns*  But blast it, we can’t ‘ave ‘im losin’ his nerve.

Raven *places the cell phone carefully in a coat pocket*  So you’ll do it?  You an’ the others?

Plunkett *nods*  I’ve spoken with ‘em, an’ to a man, they’re behind it.  We all figure we been dippin’ our beaks ‘ere in Tortuga long enough.  It’s time we see a bit o’ Fiji ourselves once again, it’s been too long.  An’ what better way t’ do it than t’ help ye commit a friendly lil’ mutiny against Mr. Corso?

Raven *looking very sincere*  I didn’t want to have to do it this way … but … here we have that beautiful ship at our disposal … an’ Mr. Corso was wanting to take it right back home from here, after just a short visit.  *he nods toward Miranda, who’s standing near the door, doing her best to look gentlemanly and not too shocked at everything around her*  Mr. Winter there, it’s his first time at sea, an’ he wants to go to Fiji, is that askin’ too much?  But Mr. Corso kept sayin’ no.  *sighs, looks at Corso wistfully*  I used to admire him so much, but he’s been gettin’ soft …

Plunkett *shakes his head*  Tragic, that.  He’ll thank us later fer not allowin’ him t’ become too sedate.  Nothin’ worse fer a pirate or an opportunist, is there now?  Kiss o' death, that.  *nods toward the pocket where Raven hid the phone, grins*  Them incriminatin’ photos’ll be sufficient t’ keep ‘im in tow.  As an opportunist ‘imself, he’ll no doubt appreciate th’ initiative ye shown, lad.  *he looks over at the bed, smiles at the women around Corso, now slowly standing up and moving away*  An’ Mitzi, she’s mixed a cocktail fer Mr. Corso that’ll keep ‘im sleepin’ like a wee bairn till we’re well on our way.  *Mitzi hears her name, looks up, smiles at them rakishly, pushing a mass of curly blonde hair out of her face*

Raven *smiles at her*  Thank you, Miss Mitzi.  *she laughs, comes up to him, leans down, kisses him soundly on the cheek, leaving a smear of red lipstick.  He rubs at his cheek, embarrassed, then looks at Plunkett*  We’re ready, then?

Plunkett:  Aye.  Truth be told, a couple o’ th’ scallywags’re more’n ready.  Local law’s been castin’ a cold eye on one or two of our comp’ny as of late.  So I’d say th’ sooner we shove off, th’ better.  *slaps Raven on the back, nearly knocking him over*  Lead th’ way to yer vessel, Mr. White.  No worries ‘bout Corso, we’ll tend ‘im.  *he motions to a few of the other men in the room; they snap to attention and come to the bed, pick up Corso, look at Raven and Plunkett expectantly*

Raven:  We have an accord.  *he looks at Miranda, smiles; he heads out the door, motions for them all to follow him.  They make their way to the 12th Commandment, board the ship, and the men carrying Corso take him below to one of the cabins, where he can continue to sleep off the effects of Mitzi’s concoction.  After a brief preparation, they cast off, and the ship heads for Fiji, under the command of Raven, Miranda, Plunkett, and about a dozen other former crewmembers from The Lancet*
